The Rudy and Patti Hein Memorial Scholarship was created to encourage students to seek and achieve continuing education at any university, college or vocational school. This scholarship will be awarded on a competitive and need basis to eligible applicants. The scholarship may also be split between qualified candidates or given as a single award. Applicants from the Upper Kittitas County, and relatives of Shoemaker employees will be given preference.

Amount of Award

The scholarship will be distributed in the following manner: Up to $4,000 total, in the amount of $1,000 per year, and distributed as long as the recipient is working toward the successful completion of a qualified program or for four years, whichever is shorter. Scholarship funds can be used for tuition fees and books.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. 2017 high school graduate.
  2. Must meet admission requirements of college or vocational school in order to receive scholarship funds.
  3. Must plan to complete a program leading to a terminal degree, a certificate or professionally recognized program in a field of study.
  4. Must plan to enroll in a qualified program on a full-time basis.
  5. Must demonstrate the following qualities: character, citizenship, academic ability, leadership and self-reliance.

How to Apply

  1. Turn in a completed application (including all supporting materials) to the scholarship committee at shoemaker manufacturing no later than Friday, May 11, 2018.

  2. Supporting material will include the following:
    1. Copy of official high school transcript
    2. Three letters of recommendation:
      1. Educational (example: teacher or other professional at school)
      2. Personal (example: parent or parent of a friend)
      3. Extracurricular (example: church or employer)
    3. Essay #1 – Please tell us how you meet the eligibility requirements of this scholarship and how the scholarship will help you meet your goals
    4. Essay#2 – The Shoemaker values are Integrity, Dedication, Respect, Team and Solution-Oriented. Please visit our website to learn more about each value: Tell us how you’ve demonstrated these values in your life. Be specific. Give examples. If you started your own company, what would your core values be? Why?
    5. Please tell us about any honors and awards you have received, community involvement, student activities, volunteer activities, etc. that we should be aware of (please use forms included in this packet.)

Terms and Conditions of Scholarship

  1. Recipient must continually meet eligibility requirements of university, college, or vocational school in order to receive scholarship funds.
  2. Recipient must provide copy of transcript after each quarter or semester completed and a proposed budget for the following quarter or semester (IRS requirement) to the following address:

Payment of Award

1. Payment will be prorated according to the quarter or semester schedule annually.
2. Payments will be made directly to the educational institution for tuition fees and books. Billings and/or receipts are required for payment.
