Husky Stadium is an athletic facility located on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, Washington. The facility, originally built in 1920, has undergone several renovations, the most recent of which was completed in 2013. Today the stadium boasts a capacity of 70,138 making it the largest stadium, college or professional, in the Pacific Northwest. The stadium also ranks among the nation’s top fifteen largest on-campus facilities.
The renovation of Husky Stadium between the years 2011 and 2013 was the single largest capital project in the history of the University of Washington. The project included renovation of the club seats, luxury suites, press box, and the 80,000 square foot football operations support building (housing locker rooms, weight rooms, team meeting rooms, coach’s offices, as well as lounges for both recruitment and current players). UW Sports Medicine Center was a new addition to the stadium; at 30,000 square feet the center includes exam, treatment, and x-ray rooms as well as offices and consultation rooms. The renovation also included the construction of a 200-stall 75,000 square foot parking garage that is located below the south bowl and stands.
The Husky Stadium renovation project required unique HVAC and logistical challenges that Shoemaker Manufacturing helped overcome. The facility is commercial mixed-used with large gathering areas constructed to hold large volumes of people. The areas were designed so that significant volumes of airflow could be delivered to keep crowds comfortable. At the same time, the stadium hosts environments such as locker rooms that require maximum ventilation and air turns to keep humidity and temperature under control, as well as areas such as the suites that require quiet but effective air flow. Shoemaker was able to provide products to meet these needs in the varied enviroments found within Husky Stadium. In addition, Shoemaker went the extra mile and custom packaged and labeled all the products sent to the logistically challenging work site. The sorting and organization of the product on the manufacturing end simplified the distribution of the product to the installing locations once it arrived at the job site. Shoemaker is one of the only manufacturers that can provide both the required products and special services on large projects such as the Husky Stadium renovation.
